Eagle owl. Eagle owl (Bubo bubo) landing in a tree. This is the largest of the world's owls, reaching a length of over 70 centimetres. It inhabits forests and rocky areas throughout southern and eastern Europe and Asia as far south as India and China. It is mainly nocturnal, preying on mammals such as rabbits, hares and foxes as well as other birds. It rests in rocky crevices or caves,or uses the abandoned nests of large birds such as buzzards or eagles. Adults tend to stay in their territory for their whole life, and their young often have to travel great distances to find their own home area | |
