American kestrel (Falco sparverius) bringing food to its young. This bird is found throughout the Americas, with the exception of the Amazon rainforest and the cold north-eastern parts of North America. It lays between three and five eggs, which are incubated for a month. The young take a further month to fledge. It feeds mainly on large insects, although it does take rodents and small birds, especially in winter. It is a small kestrel, rarely exceeding 30 centimetres in length. Photographed in Nevada,USA | |
