MODEL RELEASED: Electric arc welding. The weld is made by striking a high- current arc between the work piece and the welding rod. The high temperature in the arc melts the metal on either side of the join and the tip of the welding rod (which also contains a flux to ensure good mixing of the molten metal). The skill comes in keeping a constant gap between the rod and the work piece to prevent 'sputtering',and in moving the welding point at the right speed along the join to avoid burning through the components | |
