Jetfoil ferry cruising at high speed. This is an advanced type of hydrofoil boat that is propelled by water jets. It has fully submerged hydrofoils (wing-like structures) that provide lift to raise the hull out of the water. This reduces friction with the water's surface and allows the boat to reach a cruising speed of 80 kilometres per hour. Jetfoil boats have been in use since 1975,and are often used as ferries in shallow and calm coastal waters and between islands. This ferry operates between the island of Hong Kong and Macau on the Chinese mainland | |
