Oil rig. Off-shore oil production rig seen silhouetted by the sunset. Platforms such as this can operate in water up to several hundred metres deep. The oil rigs either rest directly on the sea floor or are anchored, floating platforms. The high cost of drilling at sea mean that the rigs drill at an angle in several directions to tap as many oil reserves as possible. Photographed in the Mediterranean off the coast of Spain | |
