Cassiopeia. Stars of the northern constellation of Cassiopeia (a Greek mythological queen). North is towards lower right. Cassiopeia is best seen in the Northern Hemisphere's autumn. The colours of the stars have been revealed by this long-exposure (five-minute) image. The bright orange star (upper left) is Alpha Cassiopeia (Schedar). It stands out from the four other brightest (blue) stars. These five stars make up a zig-zag pattern, seen as a W or M-shape in the sky. Only the brightest stars make up the actual shape of the constellation. The background stars are often too faint to be seen with the naked eye | |
