Gemini. Stars forming the northern constellation of Gemini (the Twins). North is towards top left. Gemini is also a zodiacal constellation, which means that the Sun passes through this area of the sky as the Earth orbits the Sun. Gemini is best seen in the Northern Hemisphere's winter. The two brightest stars (far left) are Castor (upper) and Pollux (lower),the twins after which the constellation is named. Several other bright stars (at right) complete the rectangular shape of the constellation. Only these brightest stars are visible from Earth with the naked eye. Most of the other background stars are much further away,or less bright, being too faint to be seen | |
