Struthiomimus. A model of two Struthiomimus dinosaurs eating the eggs of another dinosaur. Struthiomimus was a member of the Ornithomimosaurs (so called because of their resemblance to birds). The head, neck and legs resemble those of ostrich- like running birds, allowing swiftness and agility in changing direction. As well as enabling rapid escape from large predators,Struthiomimus' speed would allow it to catch small vertebrates such as mammals, reptiles and amphibians and invertebrates such as millipedes and flying insects. Struthiomimus was probably omnivorous, and its arms and hands may have been used as grapples to obtain fruit, seeds and other foods,as seen here | |
