Chicxulub,Yucatan Peninsula,Mexico. Locals fishing on the Gulf of Mexico at the village (puerto) of Chicxulub on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. This village gave its name to the Chicxulub Crater,a 180-kilometre-wide asteroid impact crater that formed 66 million years ago. The impact occurred close to this location. It triggered a mass extinction event that was responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs and 75 percent of life on Earth. Photographed in May 2016 | |
