Labradorite, also known as Spectrolite,is the aluminum-silicate variety of an extensive group of rock-forming minerals called feldspars. Its large, tabular crystals often display iridescence,a changeable display of colors resulting from the interference of light reflected by the semi-translucent,lamellar crystal planes. The lamellar and iridescent character of labradorite is well demonstrated on this polished cut of a rounded pebble of the rock. Actual width of specimen is 50 mm,provenance unknown | |
