Adult Pearl-spotted owlet (Glaucidium perlatum) peering from its nesting hole in the trunk of a Camelthorn tree. This small owl reaches a length of less than 20 centimetres and so it is often termed an owlet. It has a whistled call and inhabits open woodland and scrubland in Africa below the Sahara. It is common in southern Africa.
