This small hexagonal snowflake has rime on it's outer edges, but on near the center of the crystal. This snowflake was originally fused with other crystals that sheltered it from the super cooled water droplets as it fell through the atmosphere, which were then removed from this specimen to reveal an unaffected center. The center of this snowflake also exhibits colour caused by thin film interference. Snowflake measures 1.6mm in diameter, and the image would have a magnification factor of 56x if reproduced at 10cm wide. Photographed on a black woollen fabric and focus-stacked across multiple frames to increase the depth of field, resulting in a sharp image edge to edge | |
