This rime-covered snowflake has begun to melt, softening the contours on the rime that covers the surface of the crystal. There appears to be colour hidden within the center of the crystal, possibly caused by thin film interference. Other green and magenta colours could be caused by chromatic aberration in the camera lens. This tiny crystal measures only 1.3mm in diameter, and the final magnification factor would be roughly 67x if reproduced at 10cm wide | |
