Myelin and glial cells in multiple sclerosis. In people suffering from MS white blood cells and cause an inflammatory response during which the myelin sheath gets stripped from the axons. This causes some or all of the nerve impulses to be slowed, stopped or they can jump into other axons suffering from the same. This process can also damage the underlying axonal membrane and kill the glial cells. MS causes physical, mental and psychiatric problems | |
