Colorized illustration comparing a woman with Turner syndrome (at right) to a healthy female body (at left). Turner syndrome is characterized by the presence of only one,or only one complete, sex chromosome. The normal sex karyotype for a female is XX,but those with Turner syndrome have only a single functioning X chromosome. Symptoms include short stature, infertility, web neck and a broad chest with widely spaced nipples. Growth hormones can be given to increase stature and estrogen can be given to develop secondary sexual characteristics. The majority of those with Turner syndrome are also able to become pregnant with IVF treatment | |
