Purple prairie clover,Dalea purpurea,is sometimes listed as Petalostemon purpurea. This deep-rooted prairie perennial plant, like many members of the pea family (Fabiaceae),is a nitrogen fixer, thus enriching the soil. It is quite showy and frequently sold as a garden plant. It is found in prairie habitats from Manitoba and Saskachewan south and west to TX and eastern CO. Photo taken Dallas Co.,TX | |
