Prehnite is a silicate mineral that typically occurs in dark igneous rocks, such as basalt. It has a fibrous structure, but so compact that light passes easily through it; prehnite gems range from translucent to nearly transparent, and the color of the material is generally pale green or golden yellow. Most prehnite occurrences are very small, but large deposits in Mali and Australia have allowed the mineral to be commercialized within the gem trade | |
