Flame test. Red flames, caused by the presence of strontium, during a flame test. The strontium has been placed on the tip of a needle (at centre) which has been placed in the blue flame of a bunsen burner. Strontium is a simple chemical known as an element. The spectrum of light produced during combustion is unique for each element. An analysis of the spectrum from an unknown, burning substance can reveal its composition. The bright red colour produced by strontium has led to it being used in fireworks | |
