Female African lion (Panthera leo) or lioness. A lion pride's hunting is performed by the females, the male forcibly taking his own share after the kill has been made. Pride-mates hunt cooperatively. The prey (usually a large herbivore) is surrounded by the group and simultaneously ambushed by a hidden lone lioness. African lions are found in the savannah and scrubland of sub-Saharan Africa.
