Rock hyrax (Procavia capensis). This herbivore feeds on grasses,herbs and shrubs. It is sociable,living in large colonies which inhabit rock crevices and caves in cliffs. The hyrax is a ruminant,its closest living relatives being the elephants. Also called the Cape or big-toothed hyrax,it is found throughout southern Africa and in Arabia and the Middle East.
