Killer whale dorsal fins. View of the dorsal fins of male killer whales,or orcas (Orcinus orca). These large predatory dolphins inhabit seas throughout the world, except for the extreme polar regions. Killer whales may reach lengths of over 9 metres, although the females are usually smaller. The males' dorsal fins may be almost two metres tall. They live in groups of between two and 40 individuals, and eat a variety of animals such as seals, fish, whales and other dolphins. They rarely,if ever, attack humans. They have no natural predators. Due to their high intelligence and potential for training, they have become popular exhibits at aquaria throughout the world | |
