Western skink (Eumeces skiltonianus) juvenile basking in sunlight. Juveniles of this skink are known for their bright blue tails,which fade to brown in adulthood. This skink inhabits forests and grassland in western North America,from southern Canada to northern Mexico. It feeds on insects,spiders and earthworms,and may reach a length of over 20 centimetres.
