White-spotted jellyfish (Phyllorhiza punctata). This jellyfish can grow to 50 centimetres across (bell size). The bell has numerous white spots. It is found in Australia, but has spread to Hawaii, the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico by accidental introduction. It is carnivorous, eating planktonic crustaceans, fish eggs and larvae. It has 8 thick arms hanging beneath its bell, used to bring food to its mouth. On the end of each arm are the stinging cells,as well as a thinner,transparent,ribbon-like appendage.
