Thermogram of a car. A thermogram is a temperature map of the surface of an object. It is created by a thermograph that detects the infra-red radiation emitted by the object. Each map is colour-coded from white (hottest) through red, yellow and green to blue (coolest). Here, the temperature range is 61.3 degrees celcius to 31 degrees celcius. All objects emit infra-red energy, which is generated by the movement of atoms and molecules. The higher the temperature, the greater the movement and the more infra-red radiation that is emitted.
