Concorde in flight, composite image. Concorde was a supersonic airliner that first flew a commercial flight in 1976. The last flights landed at Heathrow airport,England,on 24th October 2003. It could attain a speed of over 2000 kilometres per hour, and cruised at an altitude of over 18 kilometres, nearly twice the height of other commercial airlines. It was not allowed to reach supersonic speeds over land, due to fears about the effect of its sonic boom. Concorde was designed and built by a collaboration between England and France. Only 20 Concordes were ever built, which were operated by British Airways and Air France | |
