Fat Man atom bomb. Developed by the US military,this was the second atom bomb used in warfare. It was dropped on the Japanese city of Nagasaki on 9th August 1945,detonating with the force of 21,000 tons of TNT. It destroyed an area several kilometres across,killing some 75,000 people. The bomb was 3.25 metres long,weighed over 4.5 tons,and contained 6 kilograms of plutonium. Here,it is being loaded on a trailer cradle outside its assembly building during pre-flight preparations in the Mariana Islands.
