Solar panels. Technicians install a solar (photo- voltaic) panel on the roof of the Natatorium building. The panels contain silicon,a semicond- ucting material that can convert sunlight directly into electricity. Solar power is a renewable source of energy and does not contribute to global warming. The Natatorium swimming pool & its solar panels was built for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta,USA. It has 2856 solar panels with a total area of 3175 square metres. They can generate a total of up to 340 kilowatts of electricity, making it the largest photovoltaic roof system in the world when it was completed | |
