Saturn V launch. Artwork of the launch of a Saturn V rocket of the type used to launch the Apollo missions to the Moon. Saturn V was a disposable design,each rocket being used only once. The rockets were 100 metres tall and used liquid hydrogen as fuel. There were seven missions to the Moon. Apollo 11 achieved the first manned lunar landing in July 1969.
