Pinwheel galaxy (M101). North is at top. This large spiral galaxy lies around 27 million light years from Earth in the constellation Ursa Major. The galaxy is around 170,000 light years in diameter,about twice that of our own Milky Way. It is known for its large number of bright starbirth regions.
