AU Microscopii dust disc,Hubble Space Telescope image. The disc comprises countless rock and dust particles, and planets may be forming or have already formed within it. The disc has been cleared of dust in the central region, which might imply that planets have formed there. The disc is over 65 billion kilometres across. AU Microscopii is a red dwarf star some 32 light years from Earth. This image was taken by the Advanced Camera for Surveys on the HST in 2004 | |
