Jet from a young star. Hubble Space Telescope image of the Herbig-Haro object HH-30,a jet of gas ejected from a young star. In lower frame is a dust cloud (orange) that surrounds the young star. It is bisected by a 65 billion kilometre wide disc of dust (dark band). The star's light illuminates the cloud. A jet of gas (green) is being emitted from the star, probably along its rotational axis. The ejection of the gas jet may remove excess angular momentum, which would otherwise prevent further material accreting to the star. HH-30 is about 450 light years from Earth in the constellation Taurus | |
