Libra. Coloured historical artwork of the constellation of Libra. The constellation is depicted as a balance. Libra is the seventh sign of the Zodiac. The Sun is in Libra between 23 September and 22 October. It is an inconspicuous constellation with no bright stars, and is overshadowed somewhat by Scorpius (to its left). In ancient times, the stars of Libra used to represent the claws of the scorpion, and only became represented as a balance during Roman times. This artwork is based on a sky map by the Polish-German astronomer Johannes Hevelius (1611- 1687),which was published posthumously in 1690 | |
