| Photograph of the constellation of Libra, with the constellation stars enhanced. Libra, the Scales or Balance,is the seventh of the twelve constellat- ions or signs of the Zodiac. It is a relatively inconspicuous constellation in the southern hemisphere. Libra was apparently a creation of Roman times; before that it was joined with Scorpius in a double constellation called Scorpius cum chelae, the Scorpion with Claws. The identif- ication with scales may refer to Roman law; but Libra was also known as the balance beam in Indic & Middle Eastern cultures before Roman times. The Sun is in Libra from 23 September to 23 October | |
