Gullies on Mars. Mars Global Surveyor image of gullies (upper right) on the wall of an impact crater on Mars. Such gullies may be evidence that liquid water flowed on the surface of Mars in relatively recent history. The crater floor (lower frame) is covered in sand dunes. The walls of the crater are brighter as they are covered in a layer of frost. This crater is in the Newton Basin in the Sirenum Terra region of Mars. It was photographed in the Martian winter by the Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) on the MGS spacecraft in orbit around Mars | |
