Rosetta probe lander Philae. Computer artwork of the Philae probe on the surface of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The Rosetta mission aims to achieve the first cometary landing,in order to study the structure and composition of a comet. Rosetta will launch in February 2004,and will spend 10 years travelling to its target comet. It will then drop the Philae probe onto its surface. Comets are huge balls of ice and dust that are thought to be remnants from the formation of the solar system some 4.6 billion years ago | |
