Newtonian telescope. Demonstration of the projection technique employed here to obtain an image of the solar disc by using a 21cm Newtonian telescope. Direct vision of the Sun with any optical instrument must be avoided. Due to the intensity of the focused sunlight permanent damage to the eye and loss of sight may occur. With the projection technique the solar disc is seen on a screen (bottom right) and typical features of the solar atmosphere such as sunspots are easily observed | |
