Men shearing a wild horse (Equus caballus). This is part of a Spanish festival known as 'la rapa das bestas' (the shearing of the beasts). During this festival, which traces its origins to the 16th century, the wild horses from the surrounding mountains are herded into a stone- walled pen (curros). The men of the village then climb into the pen, overpower the horses and cut off their manes and tails. These festivals take place between June and August. Photographed in Sabucedo,Galicia,Spain | |
