Dentistry caricature. 19th-century artwork showing a dentist extracting a tooth using steel pliers. The French title translates as 'balm of steel'. The patient's toothache is being treated by the steel of the dentist's pliers. Before the development of anaesthetics,tooth extraction was extremely painful. This original lithograph was published in Paris by Francois-Seraphin Delpech (1778-1825),with the original painting by the French artist Louis-Leopold Boilly (1761-1845).
