Urinary anatomy. Historical illustration of the anatomy of the male urinary system. Running down the centre is a dissected bladder (orange),prostate gland (yellow) and penis (long, red). A section through these organs is at bottom. The bladder stores urine excreted from the kidneys. The urethra is the tube that carries the urine outside the body. In the male it passes through the penis and doubles as the ejaculatory duct. In this role it receives the secretions of the prostate gland and ducts such as the seminal vesicles (blue at centre right and left).
