MODEL RELEASED. Uterine cancer. 62-year-old female patient with multiple, extensive cancerous (sarcoma) growths. This is a rare sarcoma known as endometrial stromal sarcoma or stromatosis, which is believed to be a form of endometriosis. Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue resembling that of the endometrium occurs in the pelvic cavity. In endometrial stromal sarcoma this tissue turns cancerous and the resulting multiple lesions invade the myometrium (uterine smooth muscle) and the vascular spaces. The prognosis is poor for this disease, but life can be extended by surgical removal of the uterus (hysterectomy) followed by chemotherapy & radiotherapy | |
