Cockroach locomotion research. Researcher observes a Madagascan giant hissing cockroach (Gromphadorhina portentosa) on miniature obstacle course. Mirrors surrounding the course enable the researcher to observe from several angles. The adjustments the insect makes to the uneven surface of the course are being studied here. Multi-legged animals are more stable and able to run along uneven surfaces without involving complex neural signals to the brain.
