Zapping,a cloned cow (Bos taurus),and the horse (Equus caballus) Stella Cometa. Zapping is a clone of Fontanella Zapping,a champion Holstein Fresian dairy cow. She was created by scientists at the Laboratory of Reproductive Technology in Cremona,Italy. An adult cell, taken from Fontanella Zapping, was inserted into an empty cow egg,and cultured before being implanted in a surrogate cow for pregnancy. Zapping was born on 5 August 2002. Stella Cometa was the nuclear donor and surrogate mother for the world's first cloned horse,Prometea, that was born at the same laboratory on 28 May 2003 | |
