Cote d'Azur. ERS-1 multitemporal radar image showing an oil slick off the Cote d'Azur,southern France. This image was made by combining three frames taken on different days. The oil slick shows up as the magenta filamentary object in the lower right. The other colours in the water are caused by differing sea roughness in each of the three frames. This frame covers a stretch of coast from Nice (top right) to St.Tropez Bay near bottom centre. The mountains inland are part of the Massif des Maugres.
