Clear-cut forestry. This involves the felling of all the trees in a defined area of forest (upper centre). This contrasts with the method of only felling the largest trees in an area. The advantage of clear-cut forestry is that it allows the soil to recover faster and the forest to be replanted more rapidly. However, destruction of the original old growth forest and its replacement with a single species plantation (monoculture) results in a massive loss of biodiversity.
