Roter Kamm meteorite crater. Radar satellite image of the Roter Kamm meteorite impact crater (bright circle at upper centre) in southwest Namibia. North is at upper left. Rocky outcrops are white, thin soil is red, thick sand is black and vegetation is green. The crater is 2.5 kilometres (km) across and was originally 130 metres (m) deep, but since its formation 5 million years ago the crater's floor has been covered by 100m-thick sand deposits. This image covers an area of 22x28 km and was taken by space shuttle Endeavour's Spaceborne Imaging Radar-C/X-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SIR-C/X-SAR) in April | |
