Glacial rock deposits. Rocks deposited by the retreat of a glacier since the last Ice Age some 10,000 years ago. As the glacier melted,it left behind rock broken into pieces by the weight of the glacier. A stream (lower right) is flowing through the rocks. The large rock at upper right is known as an erratic block. It may have been carried many kilometres from its starting point. This rocky landscape is typical of high alpine valleys formed by glacial action. This is the Lauchboden alluvial valley,in Switzerland | |
