Glacial river. Aerial view of a glacial river. Glacial rivers are formed from the meltwater from the end of a glacier as it runs over land. Glaciers are huge rivers of ice which slowly move down mountains as a highly viscous liquid. When they reach an appreciably warmer area, melting occurs. Meltwater from glaciers typically contains particles in suspension, giving it a milky appear- ance. Photographed in Skeioararsandur,Iceland | |
