Tropical cyclone Catarina,International Space Station (ISS) image. One of only three tropical cyclones observed in the South Atlantic Basin, the system developed an eye and reached hurricane strength in March 2004. It made landfall on the southern Brazilian state of Catarina, the coastline of which is visible in the top left of the image, and consequently was unofficially named hurricane Catarina. However being in the southern hemisphere it rotates clockwise and is technically a cyclone, not a hurricane | |
