Frontal stratocumulus clouds over the Pacific Ocean. The clouds delineate the boundary of a mass of warm air (top left) that has come from the Californian coast some 580km away. Usually, the clouds form just off the coast. In this instance, however, the continental Santa Ana winds have blown the warm air much farther over the Ocean before the clouds have formed.
