Slit-scan,or strip photography is a photographic technique and cinematographic process where a moveable slide, into which a slit has been cut,is inserted between the camera and the subject to be photographed. Strip photography (or slitscan photography) is a photographic technique that captures a contuous sequence of 2-dimensional images or video over time. As the slit moves across the film or digital sensor, one moves in time, rather than,or in addition to,moving in space. The image shows a bunch of magnolias rotating in a vase whilst a horizontal slit moves from top to bottom. The most well know applications of this technique can be seen in the psychedelic sequence at the end of Stanley Kubrick's '2001 a space odyssey',and on race-finish images of the finish lines of horse racing tracks | |
